Shifts in the Global Energy Map: Oil and Gas Still Dominate, Demand Shifts East  

The major sources of energy will basically remain unchanged until 2020, but there is a major shift in demand from the Atlantic/Mediterranean Basin to the emerging economies in the Pacific Basin, according to Fareed Mohamedi, Partner and Head of Markets and Country Strategies at PFC Energy.  The demand shift to the east has major implications for US geoeconomic and national security strategy.

In addition to this shift, Mohamedi outlines several other major changes in the global energy market including:
  • Liquid natural gas and some alternative energy will contriubte more by 2020 
  • Role of National Oil Companies (NOCs)
  • Measuring China's demand
  • BRINK oil producers (Brazil, Russia, Iraq, Nigeria Kazakhstan) and the challenge to OPEC
