Group proposes development of thorium-fueled reactor
A group of nuclear advocates, entrepreneurs and researchers are proposing the development of a thorium-fueled reactor, which would use a combination of molten chemical salts to cool the unit. Such a reactor would be safer and more efficient compared with existing facilities and would generate less radioactive waste, advocates say. "Ninety-nine percent of the thorium is burned up. Instead of 10,000 pounds of waste, you would have 300 pounds of waste," said John Kutsch, director of the Thorium Energy Alliance. The Washington Post
