Arnie Gundersen, Chief Engineer of Fairewinds, demonstrates what has happened inside the replacement steam generators at the site of the San Onofre nuclear generating station in San Diego, California. Arnie shows that steam generator tube vibrations have caused extensive damage due to design changes between the original and replacement generator tubes.

San Onofre’s Steam Generator Failures Could Have Been Prevented
In Fairewinds' most recent report concerning the steam generator failures at the San Onofre nuclear power plant in San Diego, California, Fairewinds analyzes what caused the extensive generator tube wear within the replacement generators. The conclusion is that Southern California Edison didn't complete a like-for-like replacement from the old generators and the new generators. Fairewinds also concludes that reduced power operation will not solve the problem and that both units should remain shutdown until extensive modifications are completed.
