Judges to hear arguments in radioactive-waste lawsuit

Judges to hear arguments in radioactive-waste lawsuit
Federal appellate judges will hear arguments this week in a lawsuit filed by Washington state and South Carolina covering the management of tons of radioactive waste temporarily stored at several sites in the country. The states want the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to decide whether the Department of Energy's abandonment of the licensing application for the Yucca Mountain repository in Nevada was done appropriately. The Hanford Site in Washington and the Savannah River Site in South Carolina hold large amounts of waste from weapons-grade plutonium. Fort Worth Star-Telegram (Texas)/McClatchy Newspapers
