Court denies petition to halt construction of Ga. reactors
The
U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit has denied a
petition by five environmental groups to halt Southern Co.'s
construction of new reactors at its Plant Vogtle in Georgia. The court
on Wednesday upheld the combined operating license issued in February by
the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Southern Co. lauded the decision,
saying an extended delay in the project would have increased costs and
"put thousands of jobs at risk." The Augusta Chronicle (Ga.)
