What can I do, as a citizen of the state of Florida, to assist you in forcing the PSC to reverse its unconstitutional decision permitting energy companies to assess an "up front tax" on customers for nuclear reactor construction and upkeep? I will help get petitions signed, help research laws, assist in making phone calls and generating support; I will assist you and any other organization involved in this matter as much as possible. Not only are the energy companies collecting from customers, Progress Energy specifically, is also collecting hundreds of millions of dollars from the NEIC (Nuclear Energy Insurance Company) to make repairs to the Crystal River Plant. Then the money they collected, just like the money they are collecting from tax payers with no intention to build an additional reactor, did not go to make repairs in a proper manner resulting in hundreds of millions in additional repairs to fix the "do it yourself job" they did repairing cracks. Now they want additional money from the NEIC to repair the repairs they didn't do correctly in the first place. That will result in the NEIC billing all of the companies in its mutual network (essentially all nuclear energy companies in the US), leading to increases in power bills throughout the nation. This behavior is criminal! If you or I were given a settlement through our homeowners policy to repair damage to our homes and failed to utilize all of the funds, do the repair work ourselves and have it lead to additional damage what would happen when we filed the second claim with our homeowner's company? We would be charged with fraud for misappropriation of the initial funds and left to pay for the additional repairs caused by this action. However, the PSC and NEIC have made it a profitable activity; insurance fraud, inappropriate maintenance standards for a NUCLEAR PLANT, funding through insurance and citizens to build and repair sites they don't apply the appropriate funding to repair and don't have any intention to build. On top of this, they are not accounting for where the money is going or how it is being spent. Worst of all, the actions of Progress Energy is not only impacting the citizens of Florida, but every citizen who pays for electricity to an energy company that owns nuclear plants. At what point is someone going to put a stop to highway robbery at the behest of our own government approval?
