An annual IAEA publication on the world’s nuclear power reactors shows that, as of the end of 2014, 70 reactors were under construction and 96 more were reported to the IAEA as planned. The 2015 Edition of the Nuclear Power Reactors in the World provides reliable and crisp information on power reactors operating, under construction and shut down as well as performance data on reactors operating in the IAEA Member States.
“This publication has been one of our bestsellers for 35 years, primarily because it is a user‑friendly reference that provides an overview of the latest status of nuclear power across the world,” said Mikhail Chudakov, Deputy Director General and Head of the IAEA Department of Nuclear Energy. “It is in high demand by nuclear power professionals, media, scientific and academic communities, libraries, as well as the general public.”
The data compiled in this 35th edition of Reference Data Series No. 2 (RDS‑2) is a product of the IAEA’s Power Reactor Information System (PRIS). PRIS database is a comprehensive source of data on nuclear power reactors worldwide, including specification and performance history data on operational reactors as well as on reactors under construction or in the decommissioning process. The information is collected by the IAEA through designated national counterparts in the Member States.
“I believe PRIS is one of the world’s best data sources on nuclear power reactors,” added Chudakov. “The information we have there is complete, consistent and timely. Most importantly, it is reliable, because the data fed into it come from our Member States, and often directly from the utilities themselves.”
PRIS has been developed and maintained by the IAEA for over four decades. It constitutes an essential source of information that supports analyses of nuclear power development and nuclear power plant performance. The first edition of Nuclear Power Reactors in the World was published in 1981, when PRIS database was computerized and its format and content have been continuously improved over time. This pocket-sized booklet remains one of the IAEA’s most popular print publications, in spite of availability of on‑line access to PRIS reports and the PRIS public website.
The Nuclear Power Reactors in the World, 2015 Edition is available on the IAEA web site. PRIS outputs are available in the IAEA’s annual publications and on the PRIS web site. Detailed outputs are accessible to registered users through on-line applications.
