A year after tsunami, Japanese prime minister notes failures in government response

Noda: Japan has learned lessons from March 2011 disaster
The Japanese government failed in its response to the earthquake and tsunami that crippled the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant nearly a year ago because it was too slow in passing on critical data, Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said. "We can no longer make the excuse that what was unpredictable and outside our imagination has happened," Noda said. The country has also learned key lessons to help avert future reactor outages that can cause meltdowns, he added. The Washington Post/The Associated Press
