Germany Approves New Energy Proposals

German nuclear plants would pay more taxes under new proposal
The German government has approved an energy plan for extending the operating lives of the country's 17 nuclear reactors. In exchange for the longer life spans, the four utilities that own the reactors would be required to pay additional taxes and contribute to renewable-energy research efforts.
