Small nuclear plants may boost US economy but carry risks: panel

Small reactors carry potential benefits, risks, speakers say
Economic growth could come from the implementation of small modular nuclear reactors in the U.S., but there are security concerns associated with their use in countries that are unfamiliar with nuclear energy, according to speakers at a forum in Washington, D.C. Such technology could help the U.S. generate jobs, boost the manufacturing base and curb greenhouse-gas emissions, said David Solan, director of the Boise State University Energy Policy Institute.
