Fukushima: What Follows For The Nuclear Industry?

 

The nuclear energy sector provides for 14 percent of the world’s total energy demand, generating $370bn and producing close to zero carbon emissions in the process. The industry is, however, responsible for handling some of the earth’s most dangerous elements, and, as the nuclear crisis in Japan has shown, no safety measure is infallible. In light of the Japanese tragedy, what has been the impact on the nuclear industry, and will the world turn its back on this divisive power source?
