The article addresses the subject of nuclear weapons modernization. Bridge's thesis -- that the US should build next generation nuclear weapons with deep earth penetration capabilities -- may disquiet some readers. But it may be useful to bear in mind that it is deeply rooted in the nuclear deterrent theory than successfully managed the Cold War nuclear threat.
