Author: Nuclear should rule energy future

Author: Nuclear should rule energy future

Reese Palley didn't pick the best time to write a book advocating the use of nuclear power.
Radiation is seeping from nuclear reactors crippled by an earthquake and tsunami in Japan, which has shut down reactors in earthquake-prone terrain, and Germany vowed to become a nuclear-free nation in 20 years.
American power companies are reconsidering applications to build nuclear reactors, such as one that PPL proposed near Berwick, in view of what happened in Japan and the suddenly viable gas fields that could provide abundant, affordable energy.
Palley, a Philadelphia author and environmentalist, writes that nuclear energy, despite its risks, retains one advantage compared to other power sources: Reactors emit no greenhouse gases.
