*SCHEDULE UPDATE* Committee Continues Investigation into Yucca Mountain Shutdown with Compelling Testimony from NRC Staff FRIDAY

NRC Staff Follow Last Week's Bombshell Testimony By NRC Inspector General that Chairman Jaczko Abused His legal Authority in Rush to Derail Permanent Nuclear Repository

June 23, 2011
WASHINGTON, DC – The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy, chaired by Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL), will hold a hearing on “NRC Repository Safety Division- Staff Perspective on Yucca License Review” on Friday, June 24, 2011, at 9:30 a.m. in Room 2322 in the Rayburn House Office Building. *NOTE* This is a change from the originally scheduled time.
The hearing will focus on the perspective of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff, who were responsible for the evaluation and review of the Yucca Mountain license application. This hearing follows the recent release of the NRC Inspector General’s shocking report, which revealed significant dissent from within the Commission about decisions concerning Yucca Mountain’s closure. Inspector General Hubert Bell testified at last week’s hearing that Chairman Jaczcko manipulated the Commission’s decision-making process and deliberately withheld key information from staff and his fellow Commissioners.
