Nuclear energy a solution for Texas?

Nuclear energy a solution for Texas?

In December of 1951, scientist Walter Zinn and his assistants realized their dreams when they managed to cause a row of light bulbs connected to a nuclear reactor to illuminate their small laboratory in Idaho. A few days later, the reactor had efficiently produced enough power for their entire industrial complex. The US government had paved the way for the research with the Atomic Energy Act of 1946 and the Price Anderson Act of 1957 that backed private companies unwilling to take on associated risks.
The US government took on the risk and seized the potential in an efficient technology where, as Sturgis explains, one ton of uranium produces as much energy as 16,000 tons of coal or 80,000 barrels of oil. Twenty percent of total US electricity now comes from nuclear sources, according to Nuclear Energy Review (“NER”).
Worth the risk?
