ASEAN to Begin Talks With Powers on Nuke-Free Zone
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations was scheduled on Monday to join five international powers in three days of "direct informal consultation" aimed at persuading the nuclear-armed states to formally recognize the region as a nuclear weapon-free zone, Kyodo News reported (see GSN, July 18).Discussions are being held in Geneva, Switzerland.
