CENG Employees: Hurricane Irene Sunday, August 28, 2011

CENG Employees:

Hurricane Irene
Sunday, August 28, 2011

CENG's Calvert Cliffs facility has safely exited the Unusual Event (UE) declared after a large piece of aluminum siding struck a transformer causing the site's Unit 1 to automatically and safely go off-line, as it is designed to do.

A UE is the lowest level of four emergency classifications.

Unit 1 remains off-line while inspections of the transformer are performed. Unit 2 continues to be at 100 percent power.

All employees are safe. We thank those employees who worked at the site around-the-clock to prepare Calvert Cliffs safely and keep the facility producing power during the storm.  At Calvert Cliffs, sustained winds during the storm averaged 45 miles per hour with a peak gust of 55 mph.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our employees and contractors in the path of Hurricane Irene. Many have damage to their homes and property with downed trees and loss of power.

We also want to keep our communities in our thoughts during this challenging time of dealing with Hurricane Irene.

Please continue to be safe.
