Industry breaks down Southern states' preference for nuclear energy
Southern states favor nuclear power over other sources of energy because of its regulated markets and ability to provide stable electricity, according to representatives from the industry. "Companies typically have to recover their investment as they go. And ... you can set the conditions where those companies can ensure there's a reliable and affordable production of electricity for their consumers," said Scott Peterson, the Nuclear Energy Institute's senior vice president of communications.
