  • Southern defends approval of Ga. nuclear project amid lawsuit
A lawsuit brought by environmental and anti-nuclear groups says the construction of two new reactors at Southern Co.'s Plant Vogtle in Georgia should be stopped until post-Fukushima Daiichi safety and environmental concerns have been properly addressed. "We are confident that the [Nuclear Regulatory Commission] fully complied with the federal regulatory requirements in approving and issuing the license and see no cause to delay construction under the [combined operating license]," said company spokesman Steve Higginbottom.
