NRC rejects 3 challenges against relicensing of N.H. nuclear plant

NRC rejects 3 challenges against relicensing of N.H. nuclear plant
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has rejected three challenges to NextEra Energy's bid to extend the operating license of its Seabrook nuclear plant that were cleared for consideration by the agency's Atomic Safety and Licensing Board. One of the contentions from anti-nuclear groups states that power from the New Hampshire facility would no longer be necessary because of new energy technologies. "As we have discussed, in assessing energy-alternatives contentions, practicality requires us to consider chiefly, often exclusively, alternatives that can be shown to have viability today or in the near future," according to the NRC.
