House panel OKs $26.1B spending package for Energy Dept.
The House Appropriations Committee approved a bill that would allocate $26.1 billion to the Department of Energy for fiscal 2013, down $345 million from fiscal 2012. The bill would shift the agency's focus away from renewable energy and energy efficiency, and toward fossil fuels and nuclear energy. It includes $25 million in funding for the Yucca Mountain repository in Nevada, and would prohibit the department from directing any funds to remove the project from a list of potential storage sites.
