UK funding for innovative nuclear projects to be discussed at upcoming meetings

A series of brokering events will get under way later this month for UK businesses and researchers seeking funding support for innovative nuclear projects, according to the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
The competitive process to award funding support to a range of collaborative project and feasibility studies is an initiative by the Technology Strategy Board, backed by the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, along with the NDA, Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and the Engineering and Physical Research Council (EPSRC).
The competition opens on 2 July, however, the brokering events this month will aim to assist potential applicants with information-gathering, enabling discussions and networking.
In particular, it is expected the events will attract those seeking new or additional partners, or seeking specific technical expertise to develop project ideas, NDA said in an announcement May 10.
The three events are being held later this month as part of the £15 million investment in research projects for the civil nuclear power supply chain, initiated jointly by the government organisations.
The first, to be held in Penrith and focusing on decommissioning and waste management, will be chaired and sponsored by the NDA.
Places are limited and interested organisations and individuals are urged to book as soon as possible, NDA said.
The three events are:
24 May 2012: Decommissioning and Waste at Penrith, Cumbria.
29 May 2012: Condition monitoring, non-destructive testing, instrumentation & control and 'open' theme in Central London
30 May 2012: Advanced manufacturing, construction and maintenance and Materials and Modelling at Manchester
