Issa Statement on NRC Chairman Jaczko’s Intention to Resign

(WASHINGTON)— House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa today issued the following statement on Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman Gregory Jaczko’s intention to resign:

“The resignation of Chairman Jaczko will close an ugly chapter and allow the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to focus on its mission – ensuring the safe operations of the nation’s nuclear plants,” Issa said.  “I commend the four NRC commissioners who came forward to testify about Chairman Jaczko’s abusive behavior in order to put an end to a culture of retaliation and a polarized political atmosphere.  This was never about nuclear safety, but rather poor leadership that created an abusive and hostile work environment.  I urge the White House to move quickly in nominating a replacement so that this matter finally reaches its end.”

The Committee asked Chairman Jaczko  on March 12 th , 2012 and May 7 th , 2012 to clarify inconsistent testimony he delivered to the Committee in a hearing on December 14 th , 2011. Chairman Jaczko has still not responded to the Committee’s request.
