French
nuclear company Areva said it plans to spend nearly €2 billion on the
modernization of industrial plant equipment, deployment of new
technologies and on the ongoing improvement of safety mechanisms as a
response to the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident in March 2011.
In
a statement June 28, Areva said it had submitted its technical and
organisational proposals to the French nuclear safety authority
(Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire - ASN) for reinforcing the safety of its
sites in the event of extreme situations.
