SRS officials study radioactive waste-management options
Officials at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina will discuss the possible next steps for the management of the site's high-level radioactive waste when Department of Energy officials unveil a new disposal plan for the material with Congress by the end of July. SRS officials were asked by the site's Citizens Advisory Board to study transferring the material to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in New Mexico. "Repository and interim storage sites will be considered in accordance with a consent-based process as outlined by the Blue Ribbon Commission," said David Moody, SRS manager.
