US Senator Ron Wyden: Spreading Nuclear Fear…And Allowing Natural Gas Exports to Japan?

Reuters has a very interesting story today: “As Congress looks away, U.S. tiptoes toward exporting a gas bounty.” America’s Democratic and Republican parties disagree on almost everything, but they seem to agree about taking no major action to prevent American gas companies from exporting liquefied natural gas (LNG).
One of the major players in this game is Senator Ron Wyden, who you may remember as one of the main sources the New York Times used in a recent Fukushima radiation fear story. Wyden, who has no real expertise on nuclear reactors or engineering, took a single day field trip to Fukushima earlier this year and returned to America as an authority on the radioactive doomsday that would soon befall us all. Wyden firmly took his place beside the other amateur “experts” who were doing their best to spread fear about Fukushima and nuclear energy.
At the time, it was hard to figure out Wyden’s motivations. Now it appears that he is not supporting any legislative action to prevent natural gas exports:
