Court ruling on used-fuel storage is a setback, NEI says
A federal court ruled against the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on used-fuel management last month, saying that it failed to fully perform its duty when it allowed nuclear operators to extend their onsite used-fuel storage up to 60 years. The nuclear industry sees the ruling as a setback and maintains that a permanent storage facility is necessary. The Nuclear Energy Institute is "disappointed by the court's decision," said NEI General Counsel Ellen Ginsberg. "Nonetheless, we urge the commission to act expeditiously to undertake the additional environmental analysis identified by the court in the remand." Forbes
