New Ministry order to allow Spain’s Garoña NPP to operate 48 years to 2019 by I-Nuclear The 446-MWe GE Mark I BWR at Santa María de Garoña in Spain may be permitted to run 48 years from first commercial operation. In a decision published July 3, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism gave Garoña owners Nuclenor until September 6 to request a six-year extension to July 2019 to the plant’s operating license.
