Problems continue to unfold at Southern California Edison’s San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant. Two weeks ago, Fairewinds Associates released a new report: San Onofre's Steam Generators: Significantly Worse Than All Others Nationwide. The evidence reviewed for the latest Fairewinds’ report came from Nuclear Regulatory Commission public documents and an internal document leaked by a Southern California Edison whistleblower. The leaked document shows us that Edison knew the tube problem was worse than it originally claimed. Following publication of this report, Southern California Edison issued an email to its employees, reminding them that it is against company policy to release internal documents to the media or public. That document too was leaked and can be seen here. The report also sourced data from the NRC showing that the tube wear/failure is worse at San Onofre than ALL other US nuclear plants combined! Friends of the Earth commissioned this new Fairewinds Associates’ Report.
