"Jobs and livelihoods destroyed, lives disrupted, increasing carbon emissions: an anti-nuke’s life’s work”

Jobs and livelihoods destroyed, lives disrupted, increasing carbon emissions: an anti-nuke’s life’s work”

“Anti-nuclear activists are joyfully celebrating Entergy’s decision to shut down Vermont Yankee. Steve Aplin of Canadian Energy Issues wonders how this can possibly be good news, given that current Yankee employees will soon be losing their jobs and that the fossil-fired generators replacing Yankee will soon be dumping millions more tons of pollution into the air, at precisely the time when drastic reductions are urgently required. He reflects that callousness toward other people’s unemployment, and indifference to actual environmental problems, is a familiar and perennial theme in mainstream environmental activism.”
