Cost of Energy Dept. MOX project could reach up to $30B
The estimated cost of the mixed-oxide fuel project under construction at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina could cost up to $30 billion over its life cycle, according to a study by the Department of Energy. The study prompted several lawmakers and other interested parties to meet with Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz. "We have to find productive ways to drive that cost down from $30 billion. The contractor's performance has been excellent, so we need to find a way to share costs and drive that number down," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. Aiken Standard (S.C.)
