Don't forget about nuclear in rush for natural gas
Because of the currently low prices for natural gas, the U.S. has shifted focus away from nuclear and coal to meet its energy needs, but they shouldn't be ignored, writes William Miller, emeritus professor of nuclear science and engineering at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Gas is a precious commodity and will be shipped where companies can get the highest prices for it, but nuclear is clean, reliable and affordable, he writes. "The big picture is worth considering, so that in the name of whatever might be in fashion today we don't make bad policy based on emotionalism and a flawed view of what works and doesn't work," he writes.
