Video: Component the Size of Small Office Building Lifted into New Vogtle Reactor
Southern Co. recently released this video showing the placement
of the five-story-tall CA20 module inside the nuclear island of Vogtle
unit 3. It was the heaviest lift to date by the construction team led by
Chicago Bridge & Iron and Westinghouse, the designer of the AP1000
reactor.
Crews completed the lift March 8. Containing several pre-built rooms and the spent fuel storage area, the CA20 weighs more than 1,100 tons and is 67 feet long by 47 feet wide. View Video>>>>
