EIA Predicts More Nuclear Plant Shutdowns, Increasing Emissions

May 1, 2014—The reference scenario in the U.S. Energy Information Administration's 2014 forecast projects the loss of six additional gigawatts of nuclear generating capacity between 2012 and 2019, beyond the six reactors already identified as retiring.
In its Annual Energy Outlook 2014, which projects current energy trends out to 2040, EIA says these losses in nuclear capacity would be accompanied by rising electricity costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
