Fission's future: Molten Salt Reactors – can they be the answer?

Atkins, one of the world’s leading design, engineering and project management consultancies, is hosting a free lecture on Molten Salt Reactors as part of its energy lecture series. The lecture will be held at The Centre at Birchwood Park, Warrington, on Monday 19th May.

The lecture will discuss nuclear energy and the case for Molten Salt Reactors as a viable new technology in the development of the UK nuclear industry. Paul Littler, technical director within Atkins' nuclear business, and Barry Snelson MBE, UK nuclear industry specialist and freelance consultant, will be the keynote speakers.

The majority of Paul's career has been in the delivery of nuclear safety related projects, as well as undertaking licensing and regulatory support activities. Over the last six years Paul has been technically leading Atkins' engagement in the new build market, working with both reactor vendors and prospective utilities.

Barry retired after 30 years in the UK nuclear industry with his last post being managing director of Sellafield Ltd. He has been responsible for various nuclear activities including uranium conversion and the production of all uranium compounds, centrifugal isotopic separation and metal to name just a few.
