New regs for Friday: Nuclear, airplanes, hazardous materials

Friday's edition of the Federal Register contains new rules for nuclear power plants, portable oxygen breathing machines on airplanes, hazardous materials and pollution.

Nukes: The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is moving forward with new rules for measuring the environmental impact of spent nuclear fuel that is stored in a reactor after its license expires.

These rules will measure the onsite issues as well as the offsite radiological impact that spent nuclear fuel and high-level waste disposal would have on surrounding neighborhoods.

The rule goes into effect in 30 days.
