Europe At Post-Fukushima Crossroad

Less than a week after the European Commission decided financing and pricing guarantees for the Hinkley Point power plant in Britain did not constitute an illegal subsidy, headlines show Europe remains embroiled in post-Fukushima debates over the risks and merits of nuclear power.

Austria has been the most demonstrative opponent of Britain's plan to guarantee Hinkley Point builder EDF Energy $17 billion pounds of financing and a minimum wholesale price of 92.5 pounds per megawatt hour over 35 years.
