FANR green lights two more reactors in UAE
The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has authorised the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) to begin building two additional nuclear power reactors at the Barakah site in the Western Region of the Abu Dhabi Emirate, it has been reported.

The US state of Illinois’ six nuclear energy plants provide nearly half its energy supply and 90 per-cent of its carbon-free electricity. 

NRC, Chicago Bridge & Iron agree on actions

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Chicago Bridge & Iron (CB&I) have agreed on several enhancements to a 2013 Confirmatory Order on the company’s commitments to improve its focus on nuclear safety requirements that affect its work. The settlement, as with the original Confirmatory Order, was reached through the agency’s alternative dispute resolution process.

General Cable bags Korea deal
General Cable has reported that the Republic of Korea has selected its 60-year service life nuclear cables. In a new multi-year contract, General Cable will manufacture and supply ULTROL® 60+ Class 1E nuclear qualified cable to Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), a subsidiary of the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).

Pepco votes yes to Exelon merger
Pepco Holdings has announced that PHI Stockholders voted to approve the merger agreement with Exelon.

Southern Nuclear employees complete United Way campaign
Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company headquartered in Birmingham, completed a month-long campaign for United Way at the corporate headquarters raising more than $268,000.

AMEC JV wins ITER contract

AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, working in joint venture with Iberdrola Ingeniería y Construcción and Mecánica Industrial Buelna (MIB), has been awarded a contract to develop and manufacture a prototype First Wall panel for the ITER nuclear fusion reactor.

Westinghouse closes Mangiarotti acquisition
Westinghouse Electric Company, as a Toshiba group company, has completed its acquisition of Mangiarotti, an Italy-based manufacturer of components for the nuclear, oil and gas industries.

Multi-million pound contract for major project awarded at Sellafield
Sellafield Ltd has announced that a joint venture comprising of Jacobs, AMEC and Balfour Beatty has been awarded a multi-million pound Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) framework for the Box Encapsulation Plant (BEP) project.
