On the Brink: The Inside Story of Fukushima Daiichi

This book is the English translation of a Japanese best seller which tells the true story of the role of the late Masao Yoshida who led his men in the stabilization of the Fukushima reactors in the first days following the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami that wrecked the power station.

Even more compelling is the parallel story that that one of Japan's largest newspapers, the Asahi Shimbun, deliberately distorted the official government reports of the the heroic work of Yoshida's team and then used these lies to promote editorials opposing the restart of Japan's remaining 48 nuclear reactors. The lies were found out by four other Japanese newspapers resulting in the resignation of several top editors and the president of the company that owns the paper.

Even the New York Times took notice as did the Financial Times, London, which took the unusual step of publishing a full obituary of Yoshida's life. He died at age 58 in 2013.

The Technical Editor for the US / English edition is Akira Tokuhiro, Professor and Director, Nuclear Engineering, at the University of Idaho.
