New Formulation Makes Batteries Good to the Last Drop

Just about everyone's been caught with a drained battery in his or her phone or laptop and with no access to a power outlet. Well, actually, that's not true; batteries are rarely, if ever, completely out of energy. When your device shuts down, it's a good bet that the battery still has 20 percent of its rated capacity locked inside. That's because batteries aren't very good at transporting charge stored inside them. But researchers at Stony Brook University and Brookhaven National Laboratory, both in New York, have developed a strategy that could help batteries deliver some of this otherwise unused energy. http://spectrum.ieee.org/energywise/green-tech/fuel-cells/getting-more-out-of-batteries/?utm_source=energywise&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=011415
