Sen. Gillibrand pushes NRC on Indian Point nuke safety after fire 
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has defended its decision to exclude transformers at Entergy's Indian Point nuclear plant from an aged equipment inspection program following criticism from Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y. Since transformers are active rather than passive components, they are already subject to "daily visual inspections, monthly or daily oil samples, and the testing of the electrical components at specified intervals," said NRC spokesman Neil Sheehan.
