Sen. Gillibrand pushes NRC on Indian Point nuke safety after fire

Nuclear Regulatory Commission has defended its decision to exclude
transformers at Entergy's Indian Point nuclear plant from an aged
equipment inspection program following criticism from Sen. Kirsten
Gillibrand, D-N.Y. Since transformers are active rather than passive
components, they are already subject to "daily visual inspections,
monthly or daily oil samples, and the testing of the electrical
components at specified intervals," said NRC spokesman Neil Sheehan. SNL Financial (free content)
