The Guardian Debates Ecomodernism

The Guardian Debates Ecomodernism
Monbiot, Mace, and Breakthrough Institute respond to the UK launch of ecomodernsm http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/sep/25/george-monbiot-is-wrong-to-suggest-small-farms-are-best-for-humans-and-nature
Last week, Breakthrough Institute launched the Ecomodernist Manifesto and Nature Unbound at a series of events in the UK. The events at University College London, the Free Word Centre, UK2020 and the Global Conference on Stranded Assets and the Environement drew crowds of hundreds to listen and participate in conversation around ecomodernism. In separate responses, writer George Monbiot and UCL Professor Georgina Mace, took to The Guardian, to continue the conversation on ecomodernism. Monbiot's column criticized ecomodernism for its aims to solve poverty and land-sparing through agricultural modernization. His claims prompted a quick response from Breakthrough's Michael Shellenberger, Ted Nordhaus and Linus Blomqvist, who defended agricultural modernization and intensification as the most plausible path to leaving more of the Earth to nature. Georgina Mace, who joined Shellenberger on stage at the September 24 Free Word Centre event in London, also took to The Guardian to share her thoughts on the manifesto after the event.
As ecomodernism continues to make its way around the globe, you can keep up on the latest responses to the manifesto here.
