NRC: Palisades safety rating upgrade separate from plant improvements
The upgraded safety rating of Entergy's Palisades nuclear power plant in Michigan isn't related to the enhancements made by the company, according to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The rating was solely based on Palisades' correction of the violation that led to the initial downgrade, said NRC spokeswoman Viktoria Mitlyng. "As part of the NRC's increased oversight, our specialists performed an inspection to independently evaluate if the plant has properly understood the root of the problem and has taken sufficient actions to resolve the issue and prevent its recurrence," Mitlyng said.
