Local cities asked to back spent nuclear fuel bill

Local cities asked to back spent nuclear fuel bill

Bill would allow the removal of fuel from San Onofre to temporary facility

A bill in Congress that would allow used nuclear fuel from Southern California Edison's closed San Onofre nuclear plant to be shipped to a proposed storage site in Texas has garnered support from some leaders in California. "This bill helps us get the fuel off of San Onofre and into an interim facility because San Onofre is not a good site," said Oceanside, Calif., Councilmember Jerry Kern. The Oceanside City Council unanimously voted to support the bill, with Kern since requesting that other cities do the same.
