Report: EU lacks funds for decommissioning, used fuel disposal

The European Commission has found that it would cost $288.3 billion to decommission nuclear plants and manage used nuclear fuel, which is more than the $136.7 billion available. Only the UK has the funds to pay its share. "Together, we should be able to identify ways to cooperate across Europe to ensure that knowledge about the safest use of nuclear power plants is shared, rather than done separately by each regulator, and that the management of radioactive waste is secured financially by member states until its final disposal," said EU Climate Action and Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Canete.http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/apr/04/europe-faces-253bn-nuclear-waste-bill
