ORNL Notes Gains In Transatomic Design

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory has issued a white paper extolling the advances of Transatomic Power's (TAP) molten salt reactor, which burns uranium dissolved in molten fluoride salt and uses passive safety features that makes a melt down impossible.
TAP reactor designThe paper was released in late January, the company said. It was produced not long after the one-year anniversary of the Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear (GAIN) initiative, which was announced in November 2015 as an effort to kick start public-private partnerships between the national lab and private technology firms.
