Hell-er High Water

Many nuclear wonks had hoped that Senator Harry Reid's (D-NV) retirement would allow some movement on a Yucca Mountain policy. But Senator Dean Heller's (R-NV) impending re-election campaign appears to be holding any discussion hostage, E&E News reports.

Due to the narrowed Republican majority in the Senate, "McConnell now appears likely to give Heller free rein to bash the Yucca project in order to score political points in Nevada, where the proposed repository is unpopular." Although legislation to address Yucca has been introduced in the House, there has been no further movement on the issue in either the House or the Senate.
