Growing support for an ecomodernist future - Breakthrough Institute

Growing support for an ecomodernist future
On Earth Day, the New York Times published a piece describing the current environmental moment as a bottleneck, en route toward a breakthrough. Especially through increasing urbanization, humanity has the potential to create a future with prosperous societies and a recovered world. The transition is slow and often painful, but a shift into cities means more freedom, more resource efficiency, and more room for wild nature.
We were excited about this article because it points to the growing resonance of the ecomodernist school of thought, which we articulated in our 2015 report, Nature Unbound, and was recently on display in a BioScience paper (Sanderson et al.). Technological progress is increasingly decoupling environmental harm from economic growth, and we're encouraged to see more thought and action around that notion.
What does an ecomodernist future look like?
