Why the new US ICBMs would be too expensive even if they were free - Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists: The 400 silo-based ICBMs in the US nuclear arsenal are vulnerable to a Russian first strike, and so are maintained on launch-under-attack readiness. The world would be a far safer place if these weapons were not modernized but eliminated.
