World Nuclear Energy Day December 2, 2020

Re: Announcing Launch of World Nuclear Energy Day

Hello friends of Nuclear Energy and the overall Nuclear Power market

Today I write with excitement about the launch of "World Nuclear Energy Day", a day for celebrating the benefits of nuclear energy and the people who make it happen.

About World Nuclear Energy Day
People around the globe will celebrate the virtues and benefits of nuclear energy, open their shops for tours (both virtual and physical), discuss new technologies, and work to include nuclear energy in legislation at the local, regional, national and international levels.

The Hashtag is #WorldNuclearEnergyDay

Why December 2, 2020?
December 2, 2020 was selected as the first inaugural World Nuclear Energy Day to acknowledge BOTH the first date of a self-sustaining chain reaction and also the date of the start-up of the first USA electric power reactor. Fermi’s first nuclear reactor named the Chicago Pile-1 became the first to create a self-sustaining chain reaction on December 2, 1942. In addition, the first USA reactor in Shippingport, Pennsylvania also went critical on December 2nd, 1957; exactly 15 years later on the same day.

World Nuclear Energy Day aims to create awareness and drive cogeneration literacy while also improving the teaching of energy efficiency, resilience, sustainability, power technology, carbon reduction and more generally, the "celebration of nuclear energy and the people who make it happen".

This event has been established by an organizing committee of industry leaders (see web site https://worldnuclearenergyday.org) to bring participants closer to exemplary nuclear energy projects having a good educational and community outreach program.

Share the Passion for Nuclear Energy
For nuclear energy advocates and leaders, World Nuclear Energy Day is an opportunity for both the technical nuclear community and their business development peers to share in their mutual passion while preserving and promoting relationships, traditions and shared memories. Swing open the doors (both virtually and physically) and have some fun while also educating those who attend.

COVID-19 Theme for This Year
We celebrate this one day on a world-wide basis because some challenges have to be met with a global response. Celebrants take to the streets, internet, offices, power plants and airwaves to teach us what is obvious, that there will be no future for us if we destroy the environment that sustains us. This one day helps us all to also pursue a "green recovery" in response to the coronavirus; showing that healthy energy supplies enable healthy environments.

The website, www.WorldNuclearEnergyDay.org will maintain information about this global project and tip off those wishing to organize events. Individual open day organizers are encouraged to check back for event details. Open day organizers can download a range of promotional collateral from the website including press releases for local media, tweetables, flyers and online banners. Event and brand logos will be made available via the main website https://worldnuclearenergyday.org
